Jim is a product of a old line Kuykendall bitch, Kate (Joe X Salt) put to Cap. (see reference dogs) As line breeding is the key to our foundation, Cap’s pedigree is just what we like to see. On his grandparents generation of the pedigree, 3 out of 4 animals had exactly the same genetic material.. This powerful dog put back to the Kuykendall females produced some outstanding dogs! Jim is a product of this type breeding. Others mated the same way included Henry’s Nell, Belle, Ashe, Dixie, Kent’s Jet, Gwen’s Page, Steve’s Hap and the list goes on.

Jim is a dog that has no backup in his vocabulary. Difficult to control at a young age he was dubbed Coyote Jim at one of his earlier trials. It didn’t matter the size or scope of the task at hand, Jim was convinced he could do it easily. With a mind of his own he sometimes made things more difficult than needed to be, he would work until he went down. Hour after grueling hour still saw him ready to eagerly await the next command to go. If you had tough work that required a tough dog you were always glad Jim was on hand.

Over time, he became quite manageable and was used in a number of demos. His penetrating eye and the way stock responded to him were enjoyed and awed by thousands of spectators. During middle age he became competitive in a limited number of trails Henry competed in. Today you can still see Jim working at home and in demos.
